Knowing that the bench had already been excavated made the site visit even more important. The bench had been cut to orient the house facing almost due east. My initial thought was to rotate the home on the bench to face more towards the south. Doing so would allow us to address the sun head on, which offers the advantage of introducing shade elements for the summer that would allow the sun in during the winter months.
