Master Suite Addition, Home Addition
This home
has an unusual footprint - basically, a one-story horseshoe with
a central courtyard. The client, at first,
wanted a second story to include a master suite, studio, balconys,
and storage. This project is interesting in that, programmatically,
the parameters continue on a path of metamorphosis in a direction
that none of us could have predicted. After redefining the parameters,
it was decided to take a dramatic shift. The courtyard no longer
is sacred, so the project became an infill. This approach is much
more sensible, and affords more efficient use of space while decreasing
the bottom line. The last three frames of the sequence above offer
insight to the most recent design approach.
